It's time

So, when it comes to life at Glacier Peak, whenever something ridiculous happens, Charline and I, among others, have a tendency to "beat a dead horse." Actually, it's more like we beat the dead horse, skin it, boil it, make it into glue, then glue all the parts back together, revive it, only to beat it again. There is no joke too old or too ridiculous. It's not to be mean, it's just that we need to laugh, a lot, in our line of work! This is what happens when all the jokes come together and are inflicted upon the new fifth grade teacher, Cory, on his birthday during Happy Hour at the Lonestar.

Jump around, jump around!

On Saturday we picked up Owen for a cousin day, and met up with Julie, Troy, Ty and Tanner at Jump Street. How do I even describe Jump Street? It's only the coolest place ever! They have a kiddie area with inflatable jumpy castles for the little ones, but then there's the trampoline madness! A bunch of trampolines all hooked together, and other trampolines mounted at a 45 degree angle around the edges. Then people just jump around. It's crazy! People flipping off the walls, flying across the room. It's so awesome! They also have a trampoline dodge ball court. We had a blast!

Down they go! The best thing to do is to watch the video below. You'll see someone flipping, Julie double bouncing Tanner, Ty doing some preschooler acrobatics, Owen bouncing as high as he can without losing his pants, and a triple toddler knockdown!

After a good trampoline adventure, the boys were ready for dinner. Naturally, we took them to Hooters!!

Some Trickin' and Trunkin'

Ever since Glacier Peak opened, we've had a great event called Trick or Trunk. Parents volunteer to decorate their cars, kids donate candy, and then they all come in costume and trick or treat at the cars. It's a great community event, AND we have the added bonus of not having to deal with costumes at school. I know, I know, we all loved wearing our costumes to school. But in this day and age of needing to take advantage of every day we have with the students, increased safety awareness in schools, and diverse populations, not to mention the fact that kids in costumes are completely insane, we really prefer Trick or Trunk! I've had the privelege of helping plan the event for the past several years, and it's always a great evening!
Here's Mary as Cookie Monster (It's Doug's costume, and I have NO IDEA how he wore it!), Cindy as a tourist, and Jenn as a spider. Dozer was there as the chubbiest spider I've ever seen!

Frustration!

A boy and his dog

I just love this picture of Ethan and his dog, Logan. During the Meyer's Bronco party, we all looked out the window and Ethan and Logan were just sitting outside in the lawn, just the two of them. How cute is that!?

Pumpkin time!

Last weekend we went to the Harvest Festival at Karl's Dairy Farm. They had little booths, a petting zoo, jumping castles, and a pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin.
Riley, Gran and I rode a miniature donkey cart. Wait. The cart wasn't miniature, the donkeys were. What? Right.
Jumping is always fun! Riley's become more of a dardevil after jumping on Owen's trampoline at his house.
Auntie Holli took Riley in to the petting zoo where they had goats, rabbits, pigs and piglets, a donkey and her baby, cows, and horses. And then an outdoor sink to wash up!

Rocktober Sweeps!

After going to the Wild Card game, we decided that we brought the Rockies a little luck. So we went to the last game of the Rockies-Phillies Division Series, which the Rockies won, sweeping the Phillies and moving on to the Conference Series. Steve surprised me by asking Charline to babysit Riley and treated me to a date night. It was great!

And since that went so well, we decided we HAD to go to the fourth game of the Rockies-Diamondbacks game to make sure they swept them too and headed for the WORLD SERIES! Mary and Doug joined us in section 347, which is the edge of the world inside Coors Field. It was awesome! The playoff atmosphere was supercharged, and after the win it was over the top! I haven't seen partying like that since the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup.

Our Little Melo

Ever since Scout died in August of '06, I've been watching Harley, and he'd seemed so sad! We decided it was time to get him a friend. We went to Lifeline Puppy Rescue in Brighton www.lifelinepuppy.org. They are an all-volunteer group that rescues litters of puppies from shelters in Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico that don't have the resources to take care of them. When I looked online, I instantly fell in love with this little guy! Melo is a border collie/black lab mix (we think), and has a lot of Scout-y mannerisms. Harley pretty much ignored Melo for the first few days, but now they pal around and wrestle all the time! Riley's loving his new little buddy too!

Three hot chicks on a bear!!! Laura was in town for a training, so we all met up for a yummy dinner at La Sandia. Love those Guavapolitans!

The Rockies Are in the Playoffs!

Monday night we went to the Rockies play-in game against the Padres for the Wild Card spot in the playoffs. I'm not usually a huge baseball fan, I just like to go to the ball park for the atmosphere and nice weather. Usually baseball crowds are pretty mellow. But Colorado sports fans LOVE their teams, and every seat was taken for this game! We had a great time, there's nothing like playoff buzz! Riley and Steve cheer on the Rox!

Although the game started at 5:30, it went into extra innings, and by 10 p.m. we were at the bottom of the 11th and Riley was done. He tried as hard as he could to hang in there, but after the weekend we had, he just couldn't do it!
The Rockies finally put the game away in the 13th inning. The fans went absolutely nuts, it was amazing! There were fireworks, and the crowd stayed for a good 20 minutes celebrating. Riley didn't budge during the entire crazed explosion of sound. He didn't even flinch when the fireworks went off!
It was neat to be a part of Rockies history!

Bronco Party turned Play Date!

On Saturday night Owen spent the night with us after his first flag football game of the year. O and Ri spent the day playing and capped it off with a trip to Mickey D's for dinner. A new meaning to "The Life of Riley," O stayed to party with us for the Broncos/Colts game. We had a big group of friends over, including Riley's buddies from school. Our backyard turned in to a zoo with four 2-year olds and big O the 4-year old! It was an absolute blast watching the kids play and we all agreed we need to get them together more often!

These guys all started at Bright Horizons together when they were 5 months old, and have been buddies ever since. Bayley's not a BH anymore, so we don't know who's keeping these guys in line now! They are just the cutest little motley crew ever!
Bayley organized a rousing game of "Ring Around the Rosy," which proved difficult to do while still holding their cups of pretzels!
Owen owes us like 8 whiffle balls, since he went yard on all of them and they're now in our neighbor's back yard!


Schizophrenia was the order of the day, since the Rockies were playing at the same time as the Broncos, and they're way more exciting right now! I've never heard our house so loud, with 21 people screaming their heads off! I think Zach was as close as humanly possible to spontaneous combustion! As the Rox secured a play-in game for the Wild Card spot, Zach had 4 cell phones and our house phone dialing for tickets to Monday night's game! Zach's had many nicknames over the past few years, and now he's Zachary Tickety!


Incidentally, I had a great sports weekend too! CU beat OU, and between that and our victory over CSU, I get Marsh family bragging rights for a year! GO CU!

Dinner with Marla

Last Friday night we went out for dinner with our friend, Marla, and her new fiance Mark!

Many of you know Marla's story. She and I began our teaching careers together at Malley, and helped open Glacier Peak on the core team. In December of 2002, she was in a terrible car accident on the way up to Winter Park, and sustained a traumatic brain injury, and her right arm was severely damaged. Marla is a living, breathing miracle, as right after the accident we weren't sure if she'd make it, much less learn to walk and talk again. She has made amazing, miraculous progress over the past five years, and is an inspiration to everyone who knows her. She is now driving, working as an assistant in a preschool in Glenwood Springs, and recently got engaged to Mark, who she met at the University of Michigan in a speech therapy program there. Mark is a speech pathologist who worked with Marla at U of M, and has moved out here to be with Marla. She was absolutely glowing as we spent the evening getting to know Mark and reminiscing about "the old days." We had a great dinner with Melissa, the Glacier Peak teacher librarian, and Gordy (5th grade teacher at GP), Amy, Vaughn and Elle Johnson. Riley and Vaughn are in the same class at Bright Horizon and had a great night dancing around Ted's Montana Grill! Our waiter got a big tip!
