Weekend at Quarters One

Last weekend we spent a beautiful couple of days up at Quarters One.  The four of us headed up Friday after work, and the Lanes, Kings and Zach met up with us on Saturday.  The weather was gorgeous, and everyone loved spending time in our little slice of heaven!

Saturday morning before everyone got there, we took Riley over to the kid's pond to fish.  Riley's getting really good at casting!
We didn't have much luck, so Steve took Ri down to the river by the bridge, where they caught 2 rainbows.
When everyone arrived, they couldn't believe how beautiful it was up there!  The boys geared up to go fishing on the outskirts of the property.
It's been a long time since Justin did any fishing, so he engaged in a little pre-fishing stretching.
The guys didn't have any luck, so we went down by the bridge to show them all the fish, including the golden trout down there.  We brought Riley's pole and let Riley fish a little bit, but he wasn't too interested in fishing, he just wanted to catch fish in the net.

After "Horses," it was family chill time.  Knitting, reading, watching football.  Big happy family!

On Sunday morning we headed back out to the perimeter to try fishing again, but had no luck.  This was the walk back to the car.  You can see the bare trees from the Hayman Fire that nearly reached the river.
What a gang!  We sure are glad we have such good friends to share the weekend with!

Steve took this picture shortly after I took the ones in the previous post. Check out the BIG orb! I've taken numerous pictures from just this same angle, and this is the first time an orb has shown up! I wonder who was visiting Carter in his dreams.

A couple weekends ago we went to Target to get family pictures done.  Riley's inner supermodel came out when it was time to do his individual pictures!  They turned out pretty well!  Hey Grandparents, Aunt and Uncles, don't worry, your pictures will be coming soon! :)

Pre-Les Miserables

Last weekend a big group of us from Glacier Peak went to see "Les Miserables" at the Arvada Center.  Our office manager and good friend, Meg's son Patric was in the show.  Last year we went to see Patric in "The Great American Trailer Park Musical."  Slightly different genre!  Patric was great, of course, it's always fun to see someone you know perform!  The performance was fantastic.  I had not seen it before, but I throughly enjoyed it!

Before we went to see Les Miserables, we became Les Joyeux!  We all met up at El Jimador for dinner.  Yummy margaritas, good food, and excellent company made for a really fun night!

We got all gussied up...and got silly.  Which just goes to show, you can dress us up, and you CAN take us anywhere, but don't expect us to be serious!

Conference Break

Things get a little punchy when you have to be at school for 12 hours for Parent-Teacher conferences.  Charline brought her MacBook in to work on some slideshows.  Kristen and I went down to visit during a little break, and I showed Char how to use the "Andy Warhol" effect on her iPhotoBooth.  Here are some fun pics of Kristen, Char and me!

Silliness!

Remember how I said...

...that Riley never ceases to amaze me? Well, here's a story from the other end of the spectrum. First of all, Riley has a little crush on our friend, Mary. She's the reason he's a Kansas Jayhawks fan. Whenever she comes over, he brings her warm melty Skittles in his little hand, and sidles up next to her on the couch. He loves her! So, yesterday we had parent-teacher conferences from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. During my dinner break from 4-5, I had to scoot over to Bright Horizons to pick up the boys and bring them back to the school where Steve was meeting me to take them home so I could do my evening conferences. We were in the teacher's lounge eating dinner that was provided by our Parent group, so most of the staff was in there, including Mary. Riley was sitting, eating a drumstick of fried chicken, and we were teasing him, telling him that his girlfriend was at the other table, that he should go talk to Mary, etc. He protested, "I'm eating!" Finally he did go say hello to her. As the boys were leaving, Riley told Steve, "I couldn't talk to Mary because I was eating my chicken." Steve replied, "That's ok." Riley answered, "Yeah, Meat before Mary." Doesn't that just sum up the male psyche in three words? Hunt and Gather, then go back to the cave to your woman... Heaven help me, I'm in a testosterone-soaked world.

He Never Ceases to Amaze Me.

We've always known that Riley is such an incredibly sweet and thoughtful kid.  Every once in a while though, he says something that brings that home in such a profound way.  

Today it was brought to my attention that he didn't have his blanket in his cubby for nap.  I think he'd tried to tell me this, but I didn't ask the right question.  I asked if he had A blanket, and he said yes.  I just didn't understand that it wasn't HIS blanket, it was a borrowed one because I had forgotten to bring his back after washing it.  Anyway, he was ok with using the borrowed one for one more day, and we agreed to bring in his blanket tomorrow.  On my way out of the parking lot I realized that I had left a great fleece blanket in Carter's car seat carrier, in his classroom.  Riley loves this blanket, so I called Carter's room and asked his teacher to send the blanket over to Preschool when she had a chance, which she so kindly did.

Tonight when I was putting Riley to bed, we had Carter in the bed with us.  After our two books (I read "Sheep on a Ship," then Riley read "The Going to Bed Book" to Carter), we listened to the bedtime CD I made for the boys.  We were listening to the song, "Beautiful Boy," and Riley closed his eyes and sang along to himself.  Then he told me, "This is a thinking song, mom.  Whenever you want to think about someone you can sing this song."  I thought that was pretty awesome.  Then he told me, "Today when I had the blanket that you sent over, I could feel you with me and I could feel Carter with me when I snuggled it.  I thought of you."  I'm just so blown away that a 3-year old could be so reflective, and be able to articulate those feelings.  He is truly amazing.

It's that time again...

Time for pumpkin chocolate chip cookies!  Every October, when the chill is in the air, the leaves are turning, and pumpkins pop up everywhere, I make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies!  Batches and batches of them, because they go like hot cakes.  I send them to work with Steve, take them to school, and pawn them off on friends.  I decided that since tomorrow is my first day back at school, it was a perfect time to make some for the teachers' lounge.  Of course, I already packed a few in my lunch, because I know they'll be gone by the time I get down there at lunch time!

Just a few cute pictures from today!  It was Sunday, football day!  Riley got a new Broncos helmet, and uniform.  He had convinced Steve that he needed a helmet, and the only one we could find came with a jersey and pants, and was a size 7-9, so it was huge!
