Our family has adopted a soldier who is deployed overseas. This is something I've been wanting to do for a while. I've had my students send cards and letters to veterans every year for Veteran's day, and we also sent cards and letters to my friend Keith Hood's unit when he was deployed. But I wanted to do something for a soldier who maybe isn't getting all the support and love from home that every soldier deserves. Back in high school during the Persian Gulf war, I had a pen pal that I wrote, he was a PFC, I don't remember his name, though. It was good to make a personal connection. Through Soldiersangels.org, I have signed up to adopt a soldier. This means committing to sending several letters and/or cards per month and at least one care package a month. The soldier we have been assigned is named Amber. I don't know much about her yet, but I'm hoping that we will be able to get to know her over the next year, her anticipated return is August 2009. I'd like to invite anyone who reads this blog to join our family in supporting Amber. You can do this by helping out with cards/letters, or contributing to care packages from time to time. Or, if your family is interested, check out the Soldiers Angels website (the link is on the side) and see how you can help out too!
Thanks in advance!!
